Postscript vs Attentive: SMS Platforms for Shopify Compared

Postscript publishes its rate card and lets you send today. Attentive quotes you after a demo and brings a team. Here's how to pick by list size and headcount, with both sites checked in October 2026.

Two glowing phones on a dark navy desk, one small and self-serve, one wired into a larger orange control panel.

Here's the straight answer to Postscript vs Attentive: if you run a Shopify store, your SMS list is under a few tens of thousands of people, and one person on your team owns retention, pick Postscript. You can see every price, install it today and send your first text this afternoon. If SMS and email are already a serious revenue line and you want a managed program across SMS, email, RCS and push, Attentive is built for you.

That's the whole decision in one breath. List size and team.

But I've sat in on enough retention calls to know the platform question usually hides a different one. We'll get there.

How do Postscript and Attentive actually differ?

They sell two different things.

Postscript sells software. It's a Shopify app with a public rate card. You install it, pick a plan and pay per message.

Attentive sells a program. You book a demo, they price it to your business, and people come attached to help you run it. Attentive's own comparison page leans into exactly that, pointing to a "300+ dedicated CS team" and calling Postscript a "<300-person company." That's a vendor talking about its rival, so read it as a pitch. But it tells you what Attentive thinks it's selling: people and scale.

I opened both sites this week (October 2026). Here's the side by side.

Same star rating. Ten times the review count on Postscript. That gap tells you who each one is really for: thousands of smaller Shopify stores on one side, fewer and bigger brands on the other.

Postscript hands you the keys. Attentive hands you a driver. Decide whether you need a car or a chauffeur.

What does Postscript cost, really?

Less than you think on a small list, more than you think if you never do the math.

Postscript's pricing page lists three self-serve plans. Starter is $0 a month with a $49 minimum spend and $0.009 per SMS. Growth is $100 a month at $0.008 per SMS. Professional is $500 a month at $0.007. Carrier fees come on top of all three. Enterprise is custom.

Here's the math nobody puts on the page. Each step up saves you a tenth of a cent per text. So Growth only pays for itself in message savings once you send 100,000 texts a month ($100 divided by $0.001). Professional beats Growth at 400,000 texts a month ($400 divided by $0.001).

Run it on a store like this (a hypothetical). An 8,000-person list, four campaigns a month. That's 32,000 texts. On Starter, 32,000 x $0.009 is $288 plus carrier fees. On Growth, it's $100 plus $256, so $356. Starter wins on price. You'd only move up for Growth's unlimited keywords and live chat support.

So don't upgrade for the per-text rate until your volume says so. Upgrade for the features you'll actually use.

Is Attentive worth it for a smaller brand?

Usually not yet. And I say that as someone who likes what Attentive has built.

Attentive's pricing page says your price is "tailored to your business needs based on your message volume, subscriber list size, number of channels, and AI products selected." It offers three channel bundles (SMS, email, RCS and push; SMS and email; or SMS only) and an enterprise tier with every channel and the full AI suite.

No numbers. You get those on a call.

That's fine when you're a brand doing serious volume and you want a strategist in your corner. It's friction when you're a $40,000-a-month store and you just want abandoned cart texts running by Friday.

Here's the thing. Attentive's strongest pitch is consolidation: SMS and email in one tool, one customer profile, one team. If you already run email in Klaviyo and you're happy, that pitch is weaker for you. Postscript plugs into Klaviyo and you keep what works. If you're still choosing your email tool, my Klaviyo vs Omnisend breakdown covers that side.

Which has better AI in 2026?

Both are betting the company on AI agents. They're just packaging them differently.

Postscript Shopper is four agents. Responses handles inbound replies. Automations decides when and what to text each subscriber. Campaigns picks who gets each campaign and what it says. Ask Shopper answers questions about your conversation data. Postscript's pitch is that "every customer should be their own segment." It claims a 15x median incremental return and a 5 to 10% lift in revenue per subscriber. Those are their numbers, so test them on your own list. Shopper sits inside the $699-a-month AI plan, alongside Brand Center (keeps AI messages in your voice) and Infinity Testing (tests hundreds of message variants).

Attentive's AI page lists more pieces. AI Essentials writes SMS and email copy and comes with every plan. AI Grow builds signup forms around how each shopper browses. AI Pro tunes content, send times and segments. AI Journeys tailors timing, products and offers inside triggered flows, billed per click. There's also an Attentive MCP that lets you explore your Attentive data from an AI assistant. Attentive claims AI Journeys drives a "50–100% lift in sales." Again, vendor math.

The AI that matters is the one deciding who gets which text. The one writing nicer copy is a nice-to-have.

My honest read: Postscript is easier to price, because $699 is on the page. Attentive covers more channels with its AI, because it runs email too. Neither one changes what happens after the shopper taps the link.

What actually decides how much your SMS list makes?

Okay, the confession.

I've watched founders spend a month on an SMS platform migration to shave a tenth of a cent per text. Then they sent the first campaign to a product page that closed 2 out of every 100 clicks.

The platform delivers the tap. The page decides whether the tap pays.

Back to the hypothetical 8,000-person list. Say four campaigns at a 5% click rate. That's 400 clicks a send, 1,600 a month. They land on a hero page with a 2% conversion rate and a $70 average order value. That means revenue per visitor is $1.40. On 1,600 clicks, that's $2,240.

Now the same 1,600 clicks land on a page built for a phone, with the offer from the text repeated on the first screen and the buyer's real objection answered above the button. Conversion rate 4%, average order value $82. Revenue per visitor $3.28. On the same 1,600 clicks, that's $5,248.

That's $3,008 more a month. The whole Starter text bill on that list is $288 plus carrier fees. No platform switch moves the needle like that.

The real version lives on our results page. One bedding client's Cooling Bamboo Sheets page went from a 1.0% conversion rate and $125 average order value to a 4.3% conversion rate and $254 average order value. Revenue per visitor moved from $1.25 to $10.92. On 10,000 visitors, that's $109,200 instead of $12,500. See the full case study numbers. Real client numbers, not typical results, and not a promise of what your store will do.

That's why I (Ishan Soni) built RevenueFlows AI around revenue per visitor, not around the channel that sends the visitor. For the page side, here's how to write a Shopify product page for SMS traffic.

So which SMS platform should you pick?

Pick Postscript if:

Pick Attentive if:

Either way, the flows matter more than the logo. The abandoned cart, welcome and winback logic in my Klaviyo flows for Shopify guide maps straight onto SMS, and these abandoned cart flow examples work as text sequences too.

What to do next

Before you book a demo or install anything, pull last month's SMS clicks to your best-selling product page. Multiply the page's conversion rate by its average order value. That's what every text is worth when it lands.

If that number is under $2, the platform isn't your problem.

Book Your Profit Audit

Your SMS platform decides how fast the text gets delivered. Your product page decides whether the tap turns into an order, so book a free profit audit and we'll show you how to rebuild a high-converting product sales page in less than 15 minutes.

P.S. A cheaper text doesn't sell more. A page that closes the tap does.

Frequently asked questions

Is Postscript cheaper than Attentive?

For most small and mid-size Shopify stores, yes. Postscript publishes its prices: Starter is $0 a month with a $49 minimum spend and $0.009 per SMS plus carrier fees. Attentive doesn't publish a rate card; its pricing page says the price depends on message volume, list size, channels and AI products.

Does Attentive do email as well as SMS?

Yes. Attentive sells SMS, email, RCS and push in one platform, and its pricing page offers an SMS-only package too. Postscript is an SMS and RCS platform that integrates with Klaviyo for email.

What AI features does Postscript have?

Postscript's AI plan lists at $699 a month and includes Brand Center, Infinity Testing and Shopper. Shopper is a set of four AI agents (Responses, Automations, Campaigns and Ask Shopper) that decide what each subscriber gets and when.

What AI features does Attentive have?

Attentive lists AI Essentials (included with all plans, for faster copy), AI Pro and AI Grow (flat monthly fees) and AI Journeys (pay per click), plus an MCP connector for AI assistants. It doesn't publish what the paid AI tools cost.

What is the best SMS platform for Shopify?

For a Shopify store under roughly 50,000 subscribers with one person running retention, Postscript is usually the better fit because you can see the price and start today. Attentive makes more sense when SMS and email are already big revenue lines and you want a managed team across every channel.
