Klaviyo vs Omnisend in 2026: Which Fits a Growing Store

Omnisend is simpler and cheaper on a small list. Klaviyo wins on data, segmentation and AI agents as you grow. Here's how to pick, with both pricing pages checked in October 2026.

Part of the guide Klaviyo Flows for Shopify: The Complete Retention Guide →
Two glowing mailboxes on a dark navy street, one small and tidy, one larger and wired with orange data lines.

Here's the short answer to Klaviyo vs Omnisend: if your list is under a few thousand contacts and you want email, SMS and web push in one simple builder, Omnisend is cheaper and faster to learn. If you're growing past that, and you want deep segmentation, predictive data and AI agents that build flows for you, Klaviyo is the stronger long-term home.

Both start free. Both run the core Shopify flows. The difference shows up later, when your list gets bigger and the questions get harder.

And I'll tell you the thing neither vendor will: the platform is rarely what's holding your email revenue back.

Which is cheaper, Klaviyo or Omnisend?

Omnisend, at the entry level. I opened both pricing pages this week (October 2026), and here's what they say.

Both free plans cap you at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. Klaviyo's free plan adds $5 of mobile messages. Omnisend's adds 500 web push notifications.

On paid plans, Klaviyo's pricing page lists its Email plan from $20 a month for 251 to 500 active profiles, and Email + SMS from $35. Omnisend's pricing page lists Standard at $16 a month for up to 500 contacts with 6,000 emails a month, and Pro at $59 a month for up to 2,500 contacts with unlimited email. Pay three months upfront and Omnisend knocks 30% off, which is how you'll see $11.20 and $41.30 on their page.

Klaviyo Omnisend
Free plan 250 active profiles, 500 emails/month, $5 mobile messages 250 contacts, 500 emails/month, 500 web push
Entry paid plan Email from $20/month (251 to 500 profiles) Standard $16/month (up to 500 contacts, 6,000 emails)
Email + SMS entry From $35/month Pro $59/month (up to 2,500 contacts, unlimited email)
What you're billed on Active profiles (people who can get marketing email) Contacts who received messages, unsubscribed not billed
SMS pricing Mobile messages bundled by plan, carrier fees built in From $0.009 per US text, down to $0.007 at $10,000+ spend
AI marketing agent Composer (free limited use, $20/month for 4x usage) Forms AI, AI segment builder, AI account assistant
AI customer service Customer Agent (50 free resolutions, 1,000/month for $700) None listed
Switching offer None listed Free 5-day migration from Klaviyo

Prices change. Run both calculators at your real list size before you sign anything.

Omnisend sells you a simpler, cheaper mailbox. Klaviyo sells you a bigger brain. Pick the one your list size actually needs.

Where does Omnisend win?

Simplicity. That's the whole pitch, and it's a real one.

Omnisend puts email, SMS and web push in one workflow builder. One automation can fire an email, then a text, without stitching two systems together. For a 400-contact candle shop where the founder also packs the boxes, that matters more than any segmentation feature.

The Pro plan also bundles things you'd pay extra for elsewhere. Omnisend's pricing page lists 5 AI tools on Pro: Forms AI, AI reporting, dynamic content, a personalized product recommender and personalized send time.

So if you're on the free tier today and you just need a welcome flow, an abandoned cart flow and a post-purchase thank you, Omnisend gets you there faster and cheaper. I'd make that call without blinking.

Where does Klaviyo pull ahead as you grow?

Data. Segmentation. And now, agents.

Klaviyo started as a data company that sends email. You see it in the segment builder, which handles messy behavioral conditions like "viewed the cooling pillow 3 times, never bought, opened an email in the last 14 days." Its pricing page says the Personalization add-on goes further with predictive analytics, RFM segmentation and advanced attribution.

That's overkill at 500 contacts. At 15,000 contacts and four product lines, it's the difference between blasting everyone and talking to the right 1,200 people. To find out which of those people are worth the most before you build the segment, Lifetimely vs Peel compares the two cohort apps that answer it.

Here's the thing. A bigger list doesn't need more emails. It needs sharper ones.

Which has better AI in 2026?

Klaviyo, and the gap is getting wider.

Klaviyo's Composer page calls it "the marketing agent that knows your business." It audits your campaigns, flows, forms and segments, and it builds campaigns, flows and segments from a prompt. It can schedule recurring tasks. Customer-facing work still waits for your approval. I tore it down in detail in my Klaviyo Composer review.

Then there's Customer Agent, an AI service rep that handles returns, order tracking, loyalty points and product recommendations across email, SMS, chat and WhatsApp. Klaviyo's own page claims 65% of questions get resolved without a human. That's their number, not mine, so test it on your own tickets.

Omnisend's AI page lists three tools: Forms AI (describe a form, it builds it), an AI segment builder, and an assistant that answers questions about your data. Useful. But they're assistants. Klaviyo is building agents that do the work.

Forget which tool writes a nicer subject line. Ask which one can run your retention program while you sleep.

What actually decides how much your email makes?

I have to admit something. I've watched founders spend two weeks migrating platforms to save $40 a month, while the page every email points to was closing 1 in 70 clicks.

Your email platform is the delivery truck. The product page is the store. You can buy a cheaper truck, or a smarter one. Neither one fixes a store where nobody buys.

Run the math on a store like this (a hypothetical). A skincare brand sends 6,000 email clicks a month to its hero serum page. Conversion rate 1.5%, average order value $68. That means revenue per visitor is $1.02. On 6,000 clicks, that's $6,120.

Now the same 6,000 clicks land on a page that answers the buyer's real question: "will this break me out like the last one did?" Conversion rate 3%, average order value $82. Revenue per visitor $2.46. On the same 6,000 clicks, that's $14,760.

That's $8,640 more a month. Omnisend's pricing page promises you can "save up to 35% vs. Klaviyo." On a hypothetical $150 monthly bill, 35% is $52.50.

Same list. Same flows. Same platform.

The real version of this is on our results page. One bedding client's Adjustable Pillows page went from a 1.0% conversion rate and $125 average order value to a 4.4% conversion rate and $152 average order value. Revenue per visitor moved from $1.25 to $6.68. On 10,000 visitors, that's $66,800 instead of $12,500. See the full case study numbers. Real client numbers, not typical results, and not a promise of what your store will do.

This is why I (Ishan Soni) built RevenueFlows AI around revenue per visitor, not around the channel that delivers the visitor. If you want the page side of this, here's how to write a Shopify product page for email traffic.

So which should you pick for your store?

Pick Omnisend if:

Pick Klaviyo if:

Either way, the flows matter more than the logo. Start with the core flows I break down in Klaviyo flows for Shopify, and steal the structure from these abandoned cart flow examples. They work in Omnisend too.

What to do next

Before you touch the platform, pull last month's email clicks to your best-selling product page and do the math. Conversion rate times average order value. That's what every email is worth when it lands.

If that number is under $2, the platform isn't your problem.

P.S. A cheaper truck doesn't sell more. Fix the store it delivers to, then pick the truck.

Frequently asked questions

Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?

At entry level, yes. Omnisend's Standard plan lists at $16 a month for up to 500 contacts, and Klaviyo's Email plan starts at $20 a month for 251 to 500 active profiles. Both are free up to 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. Price both calculators at your own list size before you decide.

Is Klaviyo better than Omnisend for Shopify?

Klaviyo is better when you need deep segmentation, predictive data and AI agents like Composer and Customer Agent. Omnisend is better when you want email, SMS and web push in one simple builder at a lower bill. Most stores under a few thousand contacts are fine on either.

Does Omnisend have AI features?

Yes. Omnisend's site lists Forms AI, which builds a signup form from a description, an AI segment builder, and an AI assistant that answers questions about your account data. Its Pro plan adds a personalized product recommender and personalized send time.

What is Klaviyo Composer?

Composer is Klaviyo's AI marketing agent. It audits campaigns, flows, forms and segments, and builds campaigns, flows and segments from a prompt. Klaviyo's pricing page says it's free with limited capacity, or $20 a month for 4x more usage.

Should I switch from Klaviyo to Omnisend to save money?

Only if the bill is a real problem and you don't use Klaviyo's advanced segmentation. The savings on a small list are tens of dollars a month. A product page that converts your email clicks better is usually worth hundreds or thousands, so fix that first.
