Klaviyo Composer Review: What the AI Flow Builder Gets Right
Klaviyo Composer drafts full campaigns, flows and segments from one prompt using your own account data. Here's what it gets right, the 12 checks a human still has to make, and whether it replaces your agency.

Klaviyo just hired every Shopify brand a very fast intern.
Klaviyo Composer is the AI marketing agent built into Klaviyo. You type what you want in plain English, like "a welcome flow with two emails and an SMS offer on day five," and it drafts the flow, the copy for each message and the audience, using your own account data. It also audits the flows and segments you already have. It never sends anything on its own. That's the short answer.
The longer answer is where your money is. Composer is very good at the two things that used to eat an agency's first week: finding what's broken in your account, and producing a first draft. It's weak at the one thing that decides whether the email pays: choosing what to say, to whom, and where the click lands.
A quick admission before we start. I haven't run Composer on a client account yet. This review comes from Klaviyo's own documentation, the launch material, and three hands-on reviews from people who did use it, all linked below. Then I'll give you the human-pass checklist I'd hand anyone before they press "live."
What is Klaviyo Composer, exactly?
Klaviyo announced Composer on March 24, 2026 as an agent that builds campaigns and flows from a single prompt. It moved to public beta at the end of June. On August 4, Klaviyo added flows, segments and push to what it can generate in one conversation.
According to Klaviyo's list of what Composer can analyze and create, it does two jobs.
It audits. Flow structure and trigger logic, conflicts between flows, campaign settings before a send, segment definitions with broken or overlapping logic, signup forms, and single email or SMS messages for compliance and deliverability.
It drafts. Campaigns for email, SMS, MMS and push. Flows and flow messages. Segments from a sentence like "profiles who bought more than once but not in the last 90 days."
And the part that matters for anyone asking whether this is Klaviyo AI running your store on autopilot: the help center says plainly that Composer "does not send, publish, schedule, or change your account settings on its own." Audits are advisory. It won't apply the fixes it finds.
One naming note, because people mix these up. The Klaviyo marketing agent called K:AI Marketing Agent, announced in September 2025, is the more autonomous one that builds a plan from your website. Composer is the one you prompt. Same family, different job.
Composer replaces the first draft. It doesn't replace the person who decides what's worth sending.
What does Composer get right?
Three things, and the reviews agree on all of them.
The audit is the real product. Both Kleanify's hands-on review and Sticky Digital's teardown cite the same beauty brand with over 100 flows, where Composer found automations competing for the same customers at overlapping times. That's a problem humans miss because nobody opens 113 flows side by side. A machine does it in minutes.
It knows your account. A generic chatbot gives you "send Tuesday at 10am." Composer reads your own history. The Joy Joya review found its send-time recommendations were backed by that account's own revenue per recipient and open rates. That's the most defensible thing it does.
The skeleton is fast. Trigger, delays, message count, channels, placeholder copy. For Klaviyo AI flows, this is the boring part of the build, and Composer does it in one conversation. If you've ever paid someone for eight hours to lay out a welcome series, that line item is gone. It's handy for seasonal work too, like laying out the sends from a list of Black Friday email campaign ideas before you edit each one.
Where do Composer's drafts need a human pass?
Here's the thing. Every reviewer landed on the same sentence in different words: the drafts look finished and aren't.
Laryssa Wirstiuk put it best in the Kleanify review: "Composer can be accurate and still be generic." That's the cage. A draft that reads clean, passes spell check, uses your logo colors, and says what any brand in your category would say.
Klaviyo's own flow instructions tell you to verify prices, discounts, product details and links, and to confirm "filters, triggers, links, audience, and send settings are correct" before going live. They also warn that output is weaker on image-heavy templates. If your emails are Canva exports sliced into images, Composer can't read the words inside them, so it's learning your voice from your website instead of your best emails.
Here's how I'd split the work.
| Job | What Composer drafts | What the human pass checks |
|---|---|---|
| Flow structure | Trigger, delays, message count, channels | Filters that exclude buyers, overlap with existing flows |
| Audience | A segment from one sentence | Does the logic match how your business defines lapsed or VIP? |
| Copy | Subject lines and body for every message | Voice, the one specific claim only your brand can make |
| Offer | Whatever discount you mentioned, or a default | Whether to discount at all, and the margin math |
| Product blocks and links | Products and links pulled from your catalog | Prices, stock, the right product, working links |
| SMS | Compliance-aware short copy | Consent, quiet hours, frequency across flows |
| Send timing | A time based on your account history | Usually fine. Spot check it |
| Where the click lands | Nothing | The product page that has to close the sale |
Look at that last row. It's the one nobody talks about.
Does Klaviyo Composer replace your agency?
No. And the reason is simpler than "AI isn't good enough yet."
An agency worth keeping does two things: build and decide. Composer took over the building. It didn't take the deciding. It won't tell you that your welcome flow shouldn't lead with a 15% code because your hero product already sells at full price to warm buyers. It won't notice that your best repeat customers came in through one product and that product deserves its own post-purchase flow. Sticky Digital says it directly: the misstep they see most is treating first drafts as final. Deciding which Klaviyo flows for Shopify earn their place is still your call.
So if your agency's whole job was laying out flows and writing competent copy, yes, Composer is coming for that invoice. If they tell you which offer to run and why, keep them. Or become that person yourself, which is cheaper.
I'll say the thing agencies won't. A lot of "email strategy" retainers were paying for the skeleton. That part just got cheap.
A faster email into a page that can't close is a faster way to lose the same buyer.
What happens after the click?
This is where most Composer reviews stop. It's where your revenue starts.
Composer can write a beautiful browse-abandonment email. The buyer clicks. They land on the same product page they already left once. Same spec-sheet bullets. Same unanswered question. They leave again.
Here's the math. Run it on a store like this (hypothetical, not a client): a $70 skincare serum, 10,000 email clicks a month landing on the product page. Conversion rate 1.2%, average order value $70. Revenue per visitor is $0.84. On 10,000 clicks, that's $8,400.
Now fix the page those clicks land on, not the email. Say conversion rate moves to 3.0% and a two-bottle bundle lifts average order value to $74. Revenue per visitor is $2.22. On the same 10,000 clicks, that's $22,200.
Conversion rate x average order value x clicks. Same emails, different product page.
Same emails. Same Composer drafts. $13,800 more a month, because the page stopped leaking what the flow sent it.
For real numbers from a page rebuild, one of our bedding clients' Cooling Bamboo Sheets went from a conversion rate of 1.0% and an average order value of $125 ($1.25 per visitor) to 4.3% and $254 ($10.92 per visitor). On 10,000 visitors, that's $12,500 before and $109,200 after. See the full case study numbers. Real client numbers, not typical results, and not a promise of what your store will do.
Email traffic is warm traffic, and warm traffic wants a different page than a cold ad click. We broke that down in how to write a Shopify product page for email traffic. And if you're counting on recovery flows to make up the gap, read do abandoned cart emails work first. The ceiling is lower than you think.
How do you prompt Composer for a better first draft?
Klaviyo's prompt guide says strong prompts include the goal or offer, context about your brand, and the tone or constraints. When output is weak, add detail instead of starting over.
In practice, that means three moves.
- Name the product and price, not "our bestseller."
- Give it the buyer's real objection, in the buyer's words.
- Paste one of your best-performing emails as the voice reference.
The objection is the one most people skip. And it's the same fix that makes AI product descriptions stop sounding like everyone else's: the model can only be specific about what you tell it.

What to do next
Open Composer and ask it one thing: audit your flows for conflicts. Don't build anything yet. The audit is free insurance, it's the strongest thing the tool does, and it'll show you whether your account is clean enough for its drafts to be any good.
Book Your Profit Audit
Composer can write the email in minutes, but every click still lands on a product page that has to close the sale. Get your free profit audit and we'll show you what each email click is worth on your page right now, then show you how to rebuild a high-converting product sales page in less than 15 minutes.

P.S. A draft that looks finished is still a draft. And a perfect email into a page that can't sell is just a faster way to lose the buyer.
Frequently asked questions
What is Klaviyo Composer?
Klaviyo Composer is the AI marketing agent built into Klaviyo. You describe what you want in plain language and it drafts campaigns, flows, flow messages and segments for email, SMS, MMS and push, grounded in your own account data. It also audits existing flows, segments, forms and campaigns. Nothing sends or publishes without your approval.
Can Klaviyo Composer build flows?
Yes. Since August 2026 Composer drafts full flows from a prompt, including the structure and the copy for each email, SMS and push message. The draft opens in Klaviyo's editor, where you check the trigger, filters, delays and every message before you set it live.
Does Klaviyo Composer replace an email agency?
Not the strategy part. Composer is fast at drafting and strong at auditing, but reviewers who used it found the copy accurate and generic, and it doesn't decide which offer, which product or which flow matters most right now. It replaces the first draft, not the person who decides what's worth sending.
Is Klaviyo Composer free?
Klaviyo's help center says Composer is built into all Klaviyo accounts, currently in beta, free with limited capacity, with paid plans for expanded usage. Check your own account for the current allowance, because beta terms change.
What's the difference between Klaviyo Composer and K:AI Marketing Agent?
Composer works from your prompts: you ask, it drafts or audits. K:AI Marketing Agent, announced in September 2025, is Klaviyo's more autonomous agent that plans and builds campaigns, flows and signup forms from your site and brand guidelines. Both keep a marketer approval step before anything goes live.
