Best AI Visibility Tools for Ecommerce Brands Compared

Five AI visibility tools, compared on the three things that decide whether the data is worth paying for: which assistants they watch, how many prompts they run, and whether they show you why a competitor got picked.

Part of the guide AI Commerce: Selling Through ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Agents →
A dark navy control room with five glowing screens, each showing a chat answer, and one screen lit orange where a brand name is circled.

The best AI visibility tools for an ecommerce brand are the ones that do three things well: track the assistants your buyers actually use, run enough prompts to cover how they actually ask, and show you the sources behind every answer so you can see why a competitor got picked. On those three tests, Otterly.AI is the cheapest real start ($29 a month for 15 prompts), Semrush and Ahrefs make sense if you already pay for them, Peec AI is strong on source analysis, and Scrunch is built for teams tracking hundreds of prompts.

Everything else is a dashboard you'll stop opening by week three.

I'll tell you how I know that. A founder sent me a screenshot last month of a beautiful line chart. "AI visibility score: 34, up from 28." He was proud of it. Then I asked him which question his buyers typed, which brand ChatGPT named instead of him, and which page it read to decide. He didn't know any of the three.

He had a scoreboard. He needed game film.

What do AI visibility tools actually do?

Every tool on this list works the same way under the hood. You give it a list of prompts, the questions a buyer would type, like "best cooling sheets for hot sleepers under $150." The tool sends those prompts to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and others on a schedule. Then it logs what came back:

  1. Was your brand named?
  2. Where in the answer, first or fifth?
  3. Was the tone positive, neutral or negative?
  4. Which web pages did the assistant cite?
  5. Which competitors showed up instead?

That's the whole category.

Here's why you'd want one. Adobe's July 2026 data, reported by Digital Commerce 360, found AI-referred visits to U.S. retail sites grew 62% year over year, those shoppers generate 53% more revenue per visit than other shoppers, and they convert at a 60% higher rate than non-AI traffic.

So the buyers coming from assistants are the good ones. You want to know whether you're in the answer they read.

A visibility score tells you that you lost. The cited sources tell you why.

How do the top AI visibility tools compare?

I opened each vendor's own page this week and pulled only what they publish. Prices are as listed in October 2026, so re-check before you buy.

Tool Assistants tracked Prompts on entry plan Shows cited sources Entry price
Otterly.AI ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot included. Claude, Google AI Mode, Gemini as paid add-ons 15 (Lite), 100 (Standard) Yes, link citation analysis $29/mo Lite, $189/mo Standard
Peec AI ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini named on the site Not listed publicly Yes, sources classified as competitor, editorial, reference or UGC Not listed publicly (Starter, Pro, Advanced plans)
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit ChatGPT and Google AI Mode named 25 (add 50 for $60/mo) Not described on the toolkit page $99/mo
Ahrefs Brand Radar AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot. Claude on the AI Visibility Index plan Your own prompts, plus a database of 496 million+ monthly prompts Yes, cited pages and domains Custom prompts from $50/mo, AI Visibility Index from $199/mo
Scrunch ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews, Meta 350 custom prompts Yes, citations tracking on every plan $300/mo month-to-month, $250/mo billed annually

Now the part the vendor roundups skip. Three questions decide which of these is worth your money.

Which assistants does each AI visibility tool track?

Start with where your buyers ask. Not where the tool is strongest.

If you sell a $90 product to women aged 30 to 50, a big slice of them meet AI through Google, inside AI Overviews and AI Mode, without ever opening ChatGPT. (I covered the difference in AI Mode vs AI Overviews.) A tool that only watches ChatGPT would show you a clean scorecard while your buyers read a different answer on Google.

Here's the thing about coverage. Otterly's $29 plan includes Google AI Overviews but charges extra for AI Mode and Gemini. Ahrefs covers six assistants out of the gate. Scrunch is the only one on this list that names Meta. Semrush's toolkit page names ChatGPT and Google AI Mode.

So match the tool to your traffic. Pull 90 days of AI referral sources from your analytics and buy coverage for the top two. If Perplexity sends you buyers, read how Perplexity shopping works first.

How many prompts do you actually need?

Fewer than the sales page says. More than 15.

Run the math on a store like this, a hypothetical: one hero product, three buyer types, five ways each buyer asks. That's 15 prompts for one product. Add your top two competitors by name ("X vs Y") and two price-anchored questions, and you're at 19 for a single product.

But here's the catch nobody puts on a pricing page. AI answers wobble. Ask the same question twice and you can get a different list of brands. One run tells you almost nothing. You want the same prompt checked daily so you see a rate, like "named in 9 of 30 days," not a single yes or no.

That's where the prompt count turns into money:

Fifteen prompts asked every day beat 400 prompts you never read.

Which tool shows why a competitor got chosen?

This is the question that matters. And the honest answer is none of them can read the assistant's mind.

What they can show you is the evidence. When ChatGPT names your competitor, it often cites pages: a Reddit thread, a "best cooling sheets" roundup, a review site, the competitor's own comparison page. Those cited pages are the why. They're where the assistant learned that your competitor is the pick.

Here's how each tool handles it, based on what they publish:

Watch what happens when you use the source data. You stop asking "how do I rank in ChatGPT?" and start asking "why does this roundup love my competitor?" That question has an answer. I wrote out the off-site playbook in how to get your brand recommended by ChatGPT, and the on-site side in how to rank products in ChatGPT.

If you want a fast first read before paying for any tracker:

What happens after the AI recommends you?

Here's my contrarian take. Most brands buying an AI visibility tool are about to win a fight on the wrong floor.

Say the tracker works and ChatGPT starts naming you. A pre-sold buyer clicks through and lands on a page that reads like a spec sheet. Bullets. Thread count. Nothing that answers the question she just asked.

She leaves. And your visibility chart still goes up.

Here's the math, on a hypothetical store getting 2,000 AI-referred visitors a month. Conversion rate 1.2%, average order value $90. That's a revenue per visitor of $1.08, or $2,160 a month from those visitors. Rebuild the page so it closes, say conversion rate 2.4% and average order value $110. That's a revenue per visitor of $2.64, or $5,280 a month. Same 2,000 visitors.

For a real benchmark of what a rebuilt page can do: on one bedding client's Cooling Bamboo Sheets page, conversion rate went from 1.0% to 4.3% and average order value from $125 to $254. Revenue per visitor went from $1.25 to $10.92. See the full case study numbers. Real client numbers, not typical results, and not a promise of what your store will do.

At RevenueFlows AI we measure everything in revenue per visitor (if the term is new, here's what revenue per visitor means), because visibility only pays when the visit converts.

Getting named is the invitation. The page is the close.

How do you pick the right AI visibility tool?

Here's how I'd do it, in order:

  1. Check by hand first. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini the 15 questions your best buyer would ask. Log who's named and what's cited.
  2. Find your gap. If you're named everywhere, you don't need a tool yet. If a competitor owns the answers, you do.
  3. Match coverage to your traffic. Buy the assistants that send you buyers, not the longest list.
  4. Size your prompts. 15 to 25 per hero product, checked daily.
  5. Demand source data. If a tool can't show you the pages behind an answer, it's a scoreboard. Skip it.
  6. Fix the landing page before you celebrate the first mention.

Frequently asked questions

What do AI visibility tools actually measure? They run buyer questions through assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews on a schedule, and log whether you're named, where, the tone, and which pages got cited.

How much does an AI visibility tool cost? On the vendor pages I checked in October 2026: Otterly.AI from $29 a month, Ahrefs Brand Radar custom prompts from $50, the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit at $99, and Scrunch from $300 month-to-month.

Can I track AI visibility for free? Yes, by hand. Ask 15 to 20 buyer questions across three assistants each week and log the answers. Pay for a tool when you need it daily and at scale.

Which AI visibility tool shows why a competitor was recommended? None read the assistant's mind. The tools with source and citation tracking (Otterly.AI, Peec AI, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Scrunch) show you the pages behind the answer, and those pages are the why.

Is an AI visibility tool worth it for a small Shopify store? After a manual check shows a real gap, yes. Before that, start by hand.

What to do next

Tonight, write down the one question your best customer types before buying. Ask it in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Screenshot all three answers and click every cited source.

Competitor named and you're not? That's the gap a tool helps you close.

Frequently asked questions

What do AI visibility tools actually measure?

They run a list of buyer questions (prompts) through assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews on a schedule, then record whether your brand is mentioned, where it ranks in the answer, the sentiment, and which web pages the assistant cited.

How much does an AI visibility tool cost?

When I checked the vendor pages in October 2026, entry plans ran from $29 a month (Otterly.AI Lite, 15 prompts) to $99 a month (Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, 25 prompts) to $300 a month month-to-month (Scrunch Starter, 350 custom prompts). Ahrefs Brand Radar custom prompts start at $50 a month.

Can I track AI visibility for free?

Yes, by hand. Type 15 to 20 real buyer questions into ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, log who gets named and which sources get cited, and repeat weekly. A paid tool earns its fee when you need that done daily, across more assistants, for more prompts than you can type.

Which AI visibility tool shows why a competitor was recommended?

None of them read the assistant's mind. The closest you get is citation and source tracking, which Otterly.AI, Peec AI, Ahrefs Brand Radar and Scrunch all show: the pages the assistant pulled from when it named your competitor. Those pages are the why.

Is an AI visibility tool worth it for a small Shopify store?

Only after you've run a manual check and found a real gap. If AI assistants already send you buyers, or your competitor gets named and you don't, a $29 to $99 a month tracker is cheap. If you've never checked, start by hand.
