Holiday Gift Sets on Shopify: Build Them in a Weekend
You don't need a new product for the holidays. You need a new price point. A gift set turns the SKUs already on your shelf into a giftable offer with its own anchor, and you can build it between Saturday morning and Sunday night.

Every October, some founder tells me they need a holiday product.
A new scent, sourced in six weeks, landed late, and marked down in January.
If you typed "holiday gift sets shopify" into Google hoping for a shortcut, here's the short answer. You don't need new products. They need a new price point. Take two or three SKUs you already stock, put them in a box with a card, give the set a name and one price that sits a little under what the items cost separately, and publish it as its own product. The buyer gets a finished gift. You get a bigger order with no new inventory. And you can build the whole thing in one weekend.
Here's the weekend in four steps:
- Pick the pair buyers already put in the same cart.
- Add one low-cost item that finishes the gift.
- Price the set under its separate total, packaging included.
- Publish it as its own product page with its own photos.
Below: each step, where AI saves you hours, and the math.
Why does a gift set sell better than the same products sold one by one?
Because the person buying it isn't shopping for themselves.
When you buy for yourself, you compare prices. A gift buyer is doing a different job. They're trying to show up at a party, or under a tree, with something that looks thought through. They're buying a finished answer.
That changes what they'll pay for. NRF's 2025 holiday survey found shoppers planned to spend $627.93 per person on gifts for family and friends. That's a budget they walk in with. Does your store give them one clean thing to spend it on, or a grid of singles to assemble themselves?
And assembling is the part they hate. A Pitney Bowes survey cited on Shopify's gift wrapping guide found 35% of shoppers say some gifts are hard to wrap, and 71% say they'd pay someone else to do it.
A single product asks the buyer to finish the gift. A gift set hands them a finished one.
What is a price anchor, and why does a gift set create a new one?
Here's the thing. Your single products already have anchors. The buyer has seen a $22 bag of coffee. They've seen a $12 bag on Amazon. Every one of your SKUs gets measured against something.
A gift set has no direct comparison. Nobody has a mental price for "The Slow Sunday Box." So you get to set the reference point yourself, right on the page: "$62 if bought separately. $58 in the gift box."
That separate total is the anchor. It's honest, because it's your own real prices, and it makes $58 feel like a deal instead of a bigger ask.
I'd rather see a founder price a set $4 under its separate total and look generous than cut 30% off one hero product and teach every buyer to wait for the next sale. Our Black Friday bundle ideas post runs that margin math in detail. Gift sets use the same logic, with one difference: the box itself does part of the selling.
Saturday: which products should go in your holiday gift set?
Start with your order data, not your gut.
Export the last 12 months of orders from Shopify. Then find the products that land in the same cart most often. That pair is your spine, because buyers have already told you it belongs together.
This is where AI earns its keep. Shopify's Sidekick can build custom reports from a plain-language request, so you can ask it which products sell together and what your top sellers were last November. Or drop the order export into any AI assistant and ask for the ten most common product pairs, with counts. Either way, an evening of spreadsheet work takes minutes.
Then add one low-cost item that finishes the gift. A mug with the coffee. A travel pouch with the skincare. It should cost you little and make the set look complete in a photo.
Here are the three set shapes worth building, with hypothetical prices for a coffee roaster:
| Set type | What's inside | Price (hypothetical) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 1 bag of coffee + 1 tin of cocoa, gift box | $38 | Coworker and secret santa budgets |
| Signature | 2 bags of coffee + ceramic mug, gift box | $58 | The main gift, your lead set |
| Deluxe | 3 bags + mug + pour-over dripper, gift box | $96 | Parents, partners, big-ticket buyers |
Three tiers give every budget a yes. Lead with the Signature: it's the one you photograph first. Then give all three a home on a holiday gift guide sorted by budget.
My rule: no new inventory for a gift set until it has sold out once. Order boxes and tissue. Don't order product.
Saturday afternoon: how should you price and package the set?
Run the math on a store like this, a hypothetical coffee roaster.
The Signature set holds two bags of coffee at $22 each and an $18 mug. Separately, that's $62. Your cost is $7 per bag, $4.50 for the mug and $3.50 for the box, tissue and card, so $22 all in. Price the set at $58 and you keep $36 per order.
Compare that to the single bag most people buy: $22 price, $7 cost, $15 kept.
One gift set order earns you more than two single-bag orders combined. And you packed one box instead of two.
Now the packaging. Bake it into the price. Never add a $6 gift box fee at checkout, where it feels like a penalty right as the buyer decides whether to finish. A set that arrives gift-ready at one clean price feels like the reason they came. If you want to see how wrapping moves order value on its own, we broke that down in does gift wrapping increase average order value.
Charge for the gift, not for the box. The box is why they're buying the gift.
One box size that fits all three tiers with different fill beats three custom boxes you can't restock in December.
Sunday: how do you build a Christmas gift box on Shopify?
The fastest route is Shopify's own free app. The Shopify Bundles app works on every plan and holds up to 30 products in a fixed bundle, which is plenty for a gift box. Create a fixed bundle, add the products, set one price, and publish it as its own product.
Three catches worth knowing before the traffic hits:
- Prices don't sync. Shopify says the bundle price doesn't update when a component's price changes. Raise your coffee price on November 1 and you'll need to reprice the set by hand.
- Inventory is tracked overall, not by location. If you ship from two warehouses, watch stock on the component products closely.
- The order shows the items, not the set. Your packer sees two bags and a mug, so tape a note at the packing station that says which orders get the gift box.
Then the page. Give the set its own photos, shot as a gift: box open, card visible, ribbon on. AI helps here too. Sidekick can generate images from a text prompt and use your product photos as a reference, which is enough for a quick lifestyle mockup while you wait on a real shoot. It can draft the description too. Rewrite the first line yourself.
Write the page for the giver, not the drinker. Who is this for? What will they feel when they open it? Will it arrive by the 24th? Our guide to writing a Shopify product page for gift buyers covers the exact questions a gift buyer needs answered before they commit.
What does a gift set do to revenue per visitor?
Still the hypothetical roaster. Before the gift sets: conversion rate 2.0%, average order value $31. That means revenue per visitor is $0.62. On 10,000 visitors, that's $6,200.
After, with the Signature set leading the homepage and the top product page: conversion rate 2.2%, average order value $44. Revenue per visitor is $0.97 (2.2% x $44 = $0.968). On the same 10,000 visitors, that's $9,680.
Same traffic. No new product. $3,480 more on every 10,000 visitors.
Conversion rate x average order value x visitors. Before: 2.0% x $31. After: 2.2% x $44.
For numbers that aren't hypothetical: one Amazon product we moved to Shopify sold for $29.95 a unit. On Shopify, with a page built to sell a bigger order, average order value hit $177.75 and net profit came to $78.87 per sale, after ads and inventory. See the full case study numbers. Real client numbers, not typical results, and not a promise of what your store will do.
The gift set gives you the bigger order. The page decides whether anyone takes it.
When should you skip the gift set?
If your product isn't giftable, don't force it. Replacement filters, refills and anything that needs a size or fit the giver doesn't know are better sold another way. Late December is the other exception. Once shipping cutoffs pass, a box can't arrive in time, and a gift card upsell keeps selling when the set can't.
Timing matters too. Black Friday 2026 lands on November 27, and NRF found 42% of shoppers planned to start holiday buying before November. A set that goes live on Black Friday morning has already missed them. Build it this weekend.

FAQ
How do I create a gift set on Shopify? Use the free Shopify Bundles app to create a fixed bundle, add the products, set one price, and give the set its own product page and photos.
How should I price a holiday gift set? A little under the separate total of the items, with packaging baked in. A $62 set of items might sell at $58 in a gift box.
Should I charge extra for gift packaging? No. Put the packaging cost in the set price. A checkout fee feels like a penalty at the worst possible moment.
Do I need new inventory to sell gift sets? Usually not. Build from what you stock, order boxes and tissue, and only reorder product once the set sells out.
When should I launch holiday gift sets? In October. Black Friday 2026 is November 27, and 42% of shoppers in NRF's 2025 survey planned to start before November.
What to do next
Tonight, export your last 12 months of orders and find the one product pair that shows up in the same cart more than any other. That pair is your Signature set. Price it, box it and publish it by Sunday night.

Frequently asked questions
How do I create a gift set on Shopify?
Install the free Shopify Bundles app, create a fixed bundle, add the products that go in the box, and set one bundle price. It works on every Shopify plan and holds up to 30 products in a fixed bundle. Then give the set its own product page, photos and name, the same as any other product.
How should I price a holiday gift set?
Add up what the items cost bought separately, then price the set a little under that total with the packaging cost baked in. A set worth $62 separately might sell at $58 in a gift box. Show the separate total on the page so the buyer has an anchor to compare against.
Should I charge extra for gift packaging?
Put the packaging cost inside the set price instead of adding a line item at checkout. A separate packaging fee feels like a penalty at the last step. A set that arrives gift-ready at one price feels like the whole point of buying it.
Do I need new inventory to sell gift sets?
Usually not. The best holiday gift sets are made from products you already stock, plus a box, tissue and a card. Order packaging, not product, and only reorder product once the set has proven it sells.
When should I launch holiday gift sets?
Have them live in October. Black Friday 2026 is November 27, and NRF's 2025 survey found 42% of holiday shoppers planned to start browsing and buying before November, so a set that launches on Black Friday is already late for a big share of buyers.
