Shopify Product Page Design Service: What It Should Cost

Published prices for a Shopify product page design service run from a $65 starting rate to $20,000 agency builds. Here's what each tier buys, and the one number that tells you which price is cheap.

A navy desk with two sealed envelopes holding price quotes, one small and one thick, beside a glowing orange product page on a laptop screen.

The question lands in my inbox in the same shape every time. Two quotes for the same product page. One is a few hundred dollars. One is a few thousand. Which one is the right price?

Here's the straight answer. A Shopify product page design service costs anywhere from a starting rate of about $65 on expert marketplaces, to roughly $2,000 for a new product page layout from a vetted Shopify network, to $2,000 to $10,000 for theme customization, to $5,000 to $20,000 or more for custom agency design. Those are published market prices, sourced below.

But the sticker price is the wrong number to stare at. The right number is what the finished page earns per visitor. A $400 page that earns nothing extra is expensive. A $4,000 page that adds a dollar to every visitor is the cheapest thing you'll buy this year.

So let's do both. What the market charges, and how to tell which price actually pays.

What does a Shopify product page design service cost in 2026?

I pulled the published numbers from the places founders actually hire. Not guesses. Prices the vendors and cost guides put in writing.

Who you hire Published price What that buys
Expert marketplace profiles Starting prices from $65 to $500 on featured ShopExperts profiles One person, scope set by quote
Small fixes and minor theme edits $300 to $2,000 per First Pier's 2026 hiring guide Tweaks to the page you already have
Vetted Shopify network Theme edits from $475 (4 days), a new product detail page layout from $2,000 (2 weeks) on Storetasker A new layout for one product template
Freelance Shopify developers $50 to $125 an hour per Blackbelt Commerce Hourly build work
Theme customization $2,000 to $8,000 (Blackbelt), roughly $2,000 to $10,000+ per OuterBox Custom sections, layouts, typography
Boutique agencies $125 to $200 an hour (Blackbelt) A team, a process, a project manager
Custom agency design Often $5,000 to $20,000+ (OuterBox) A full custom store, product pages included

Notice something. Almost nobody prices "a product page that sells." They price hours, templates and layouts. Blackbelt even calls a product page redesign an "ideal freelancer" project, which tells you the market sees it as a build job.

You're shopping for a page that sells. Most of the market is selling you a page that renders.

Why do quotes for the same product page swing from $75 to $10,000?

Because the quotes describe different jobs wearing the same name.

The low end is layout work. Move the reviews up. Add a sticky add-to-cart. Swap the image gallery. Useful, sometimes. But the copy, the offer and the order of the argument stay exactly where they were.

The middle is template work. A custom product page design built as a new Shopify template, so your hero products get their own layout. OuterBox makes the point that some stores run one product template across the whole catalog while others need separate ones for best sellers, bundles and subscriptions. That's real value if your hero product is buried in a generic template.

The top end is a whole store. If you're paying $15,000 and you only needed one page fixed, you bought a house to repaint a door.

Here's the thing I've seen over and over. The price tracks how much gets built. It almost never tracks how much the page will sell. A shopify product page designer charging $9,000 and one charging $475 can both hand you a page with the same spec-sheet copy, the same unanswered objections, and a nicer font.

Can a prettier product page make you less money?

Yes. And there's a published test that shows it.

Clean Commit ran an A/B test on a redesigned Shopify product page with better visuals and more product information. Clicks went up 21.6%. Bounce rate dropped 23.5%. Everything a designer would screenshot for a portfolio.

Then the money. Conversion rate fell 16.3%. Revenue per visitor fell 12.2%. Their own read: the extra information may have overwhelmed buyers at the moment of decision.

Run that on a store like this, a hypothetical. 10,000 monthly visitors to the hero product. Conversion rate 1.2%, average order value $85. That's $1.02 revenue per visitor, or $10,200 a month.

Knock 12.2% off that and you're at about $0.90 per visitor. Roughly $8,956 a month. You paid a designer to lose $1,244 every month. Call it $14,928 a year, plus whatever the design cost.

That's the bleeding version. A beautiful page, quietly leaking.

The cheapest product page design is the one you can measure. The most expensive is the one you can't.

How do you know if a product page design is worth the price?

Flip the question. Stop asking "what does it cost?" and ask "how much does it have to earn per visitor to pay me back?"

Here's the math. Divide the price by your monthly visitors to that page. That's the lift in revenue per visitor you need to break even in 30 days.

Published price point Lift needed per visitor on 10,000 monthly visitors to pay back in 30 days
$475 theme edit 4.75 cents
$2,000 new layout 20 cents
$8,000 theme customization 80 cents
$20,000 custom agency design $2.00

Now run the other side on the same hypothetical store. Say the new page answers the three questions buyers were silently asking and adds a bundle that makes sense for the product. Conversion rate goes from 1.2% to 1.8%, average order value from $85 to $95. That's 1.8% x $95 = $1.71 revenue per visitor. On 10,000 visitors, $17,100 a month instead of $10,200.

That's $6,900 more a month. Same traffic. No new ads.

At that lift, a $2,000 page pays back in about 9 days. A $20,000 agency build pays back in a little under 3 months. Both are good trades if the lift is real. Neither is a good trade if the page only looks better. You find out which with a split URL test, the old page against the new one on the same traffic.

If you've never pulled your real number, start with how to calculate revenue per visitor on Shopify. It takes five minutes and it changes every quote you'll ever read.

What should a product page design service actually deliver?

Here's where I'll be blunt. Most briefs I see ask for the wrong deliverable. "Make it look premium." "Make it like Gymshark." That's how you end up with the Clean Commit outcome.

A page that sells is an argument, in order. Who it's for. What it fixes. Why it costs what it costs. Why it's safe to buy. The design's job is to carry that argument, not decorate around it.

So before you sign any quote, ask for these four things in writing:

  1. The top three buyer objections they'll answer, and where on the page.
  2. Who writes the copy, and whether it's included.
  3. How they'll measure conversion rate and average order value before and after.
  4. What happens if the new page earns less than the old one.

If they can't answer number one, they're a layout service. That's fine for a $475 edit. It's a problem at $8,000. Our walkthrough on mapping buyer objections on a Shopify product page shows exactly what that first answer should look like.

Here's what it looks like when the argument is fixed. On a bedding client's Copper Bamboo Sheets, conversion rate went from 1.0% to 4.3% and average order value from $125 to $221. Revenue per visitor moved from $1.25 to $9.50. On 10,000 visitors, that's $95,000 instead of $12,500. You can see the full case study numbers. Real client numbers, not typical results, and not a promise of what your store will do.

Same product. Same sheets. Different argument.

A designer moves pixels. A page that sells moves the reason to buy.

How is AI changing what product page design should cost?

Honestly? It's squeezing the part of the bill that used to be labor.

Shopify's own admin now has Sidekick draft product descriptions from a title and a few features. Shopify also warns the generated text can add benefits you never listed, so you still have to check every line. That's the tell. The typing got cheap. The judgment didn't.

So when you read a quote in 2026, split it in your head. How much of this is someone producing words and images a tool can now draft in minutes? And how much is someone deciding what your buyer needs to hear, in what order? Pay for the second part. Push back on the first. I went deeper on this trade in AI product page generator vs copywriter, and the AI product pages guide covers the whole build.

I'm Ishan Soni, and at RevenueFlows AI every page gets judged on one number: revenue per visitor. Whatever tool or person builds the page, that's the scoreboard.

Freelancer, network or agency: which should you hire?

Short version, by where your store is today.

And if the page is mainly for ad traffic, settle the landing page vs product page question before you brief anyone, because it changes what you're buying.

If you're stuck between those, our breakdown of CRO agency vs freelancer vs app runs the same math for testing programs, and the best Shopify page builders for conversions post covers doing it yourself.

What to do next

Before you open another quote, write one number on a sticky note: your hero product's revenue per visitor today. Conversion rate times average order value. Then divide every quote you get by your monthly visitors and ask the designer, out loud, how they'll beat that lift. The good ones light up. The others go quiet.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Shopify product page design service cost?

Published 2026 prices run from starting rates around $65 to $500 on expert marketplaces, to about $2,000 for a new product page layout from a vetted Shopify network, $2,000 to $10,000 for theme customization, and $5,000 to $20,000 or more for agency custom design.

Is it worth paying for a custom product page design?

Only if the new page earns more per visitor than the old one. On 10,000 monthly visitors, a $2,000 page has to add 20 cents of revenue per visitor to pay for itself in 30 days. If the designer can't tell you how they'll move that number, you're buying decoration.

Should I hire a freelancer or an agency to design my Shopify product page?

A single product page is freelancer-sized work. Published rates put Shopify freelancers around $50 to $125 an hour and boutique agencies at $125 to $200 an hour, so an agency only makes sense when the job is a full store, not one page.

Can a redesigned product page lower my conversion rate?

Yes. One published Shopify A/B test of a redesigned product page saw clicks and engagement go up while conversion rate fell 16.3% and revenue per visitor fell 12.2%. A prettier page that adds noise at the decision point can cost you money.

What should a Shopify product page designer deliver?

A page built around your buyer's top objections, with the copy, images and layout answering them in order, plus a before and after measurement of conversion rate and average order value. A mockup with no numbers attached is half the job.
